Week 1: Introduction to Public Speaking and Overcoming Nervousness
Introduction to public speaking basics, including identifying audience, purpose, and delivery
Discussion and activities on the common fears of public speaking and strategies to overcome them
Practice exercises to help students identify their own strengths and areas for improvement
Week 2: The Art of Storytelling and Building a Persuasive Speech
Introduction to the art of storytelling and how to use it to build a compelling speech
Discussion and activities on persuasion techniques, including using emotional appeals, statistics, and expert opinion
Practice exercises to help students craft their own persuasive speeches
Week 3: Effective Body Language and Delivery Skills
Introduction to the role of body language and nonverbal cues in effective public speaking
Discussion and activities on the importance of eye contact, posture, and facial expressions in engaging an audience
Practice exercises to help students improve their delivery skills and build confidence in their abilities
Week 4: Preparing for Public Speaking Opportunities
Introduction to the process of preparing for a public speaking opportunity, including researching the topic, organizing content, and rehearsing
Discussion and activities on how to handle questions from an audience and strategies for managing nervousness during the speech
Practice exercises to help students prepare and deliver their own speeches, as well as provide constructive feedback to their peers.
Throughout the course, students will be given opportunities to practice their public speaking skills and receive feedback from the instructor and their peers. By the end of the course, students will have developed stronger communication skills and greater confidence in their ability to deliver effective speeches.
